Using a range of the latest technologies from VALD, including ForceDecks, Dynamo and HumanTrak, we have devised a comprehensive series of tests that allow us to scan and measure strength and mobility within the muscles and across the joints of the entire body.
These tests allow us to set strong markers for improvement in terms of total strength, quality of movement and balance of strength across the body. A pain-free active life requires an understanding of how we move and how to keep ourselves strong forever, and knowing the numbers empowers our programming.
Our range of strength and power testing includes the following key Longevity tests plus many more:
Grip Strength A primary biomarker for biological age, total body strength and overall mortality risk in later life.
Squat Power Test Measuring force development in the lower body with a high power output linked to faster walking speed and the ability to prevent falls.
Mid Thigh Pull Power Test Assessing peak force production from a stable, grounded position. It is a gold standard for measuring total body explosive strength and athletic potential.
Jump Power Test Evaluating vertical explosive capacity, a key metric for fast-twitch fibre recruitment, which naturally declines with age unless targeted with specific power training.
Beyond raw strength and we assess endurance & stability, including the below tests:
Hang Test Measures forearm endurance and shoulder health, signifying “pulling” resilience and indicating upper-body longevity and functional spinal decompression.
Carry Test Evaluates your work capacity and postural integrity under load, showing your ‘real-world’ strength and ability to protect the back by maintaining a neutral spine while moving.
Plank Hold Assesses anterior core endurance with a strong hold signifying the ability to stabilise the spine against gravity, improving posture and reducing the risk of lower back injury.
Reverse Hyper Hold Evaluates posterior chain endurance, specifically the lower back, glutes, and hamstrings. This highlights your “back armor” necessary for spinal health and long-term postural support.
Mobility & Balance is vital for living your longest, healthiest life. So we test a range of functional movement patterns including:
Single Leg Balance Test (Eyes Open & Closed) Measures static postural control, proprioception, vestibular and somatosensory systems. Strong performance signifies lower fall risk and better neuromuscular coordination, all critical for maintaining independence as we age.
Neck Rotation & Lateral Flexion Evaluates the ability to move the head freely, a key indicator of spinal health that ensures the functional capacity needed for tasks like safe driving or checking surroundings.
Shoulder Abduction & Flexion Assesses the overhead health of the shoulder which signifies the functional capacity to safely perform reaching tasks without risk of injury or long term dysfunction.
Trunk Flexion Evaluates spinal and hamstring flexibility which indicate a healthy, mobile posterior chain, essential for preventing lower back pain and maintaining a youthful gait.
Includes a range of strength, power, endurance, stability and mobility tests using the latest VALD technologies.
In this clip from the Evolution Lab podcast, Matt and Jon Roberts deep dive into the science of strength training, offering a complete blueprint for maximising your workouts for the greatest longevity returns. They cover how often to train each muscle group, the ideal volume per week and why consistency is key for lasting results.
